Why the transmission can stay in Park
BMW transmission control systems on many applications participate in the immobilizer/security environment. After a used transmission or mechatronics unit is installed, mismatched security data can prevent normal gear engagement until the EGS is properly reset and matched.
Typical service situations
- Used 6HP or 8HP transmission installed
- Replacement mechatronics / EGS module
- Transmission remains locked after mechanical installation
- Shop needs remote or bench support to complete the electronic side of a transmission replacement
Remote and mail-in options
The exact method varies by generation. Some jobs can be supported remotely with the appropriate vehicle connection; others require modules/components to be sent in. Contact us before disassembly so we can tell you the correct path.
For repair shops
If you are completing the mechanical transmission replacement, we can support the security/programming portion so you do not have to outsource the entire vehicle.
